Social activities are organized by the Amston Lake Association (ALA), which owns the Clubhouse on Wood Acres Road and sponsors a range of activities ranging from Lake Days to Halloween and New Year’s Eve parties.
The Amston Lake Improvement
Association traces its roots back to August 28, 1949. At
this time three organizations existed, each performing
similar functions. They were the Amston Lake Club, the
Amston Lake Volunteer Fire Company, and the Amston Lake
Fish and Game Club. At the August Meeting it was decided
that the Amston Lake Club would be dissolved as of that
day, and that a committee of ten members remain intact
to form a new organization starting in 1950.
From those three groups came ALIA and, in 2007, ALA. Over the years, the focus of the Association has changed but never the objectives: to provide services for the benefit of the lake residents. ALA is now considered the social arm of the community.
Murray Ostrager donated the clubhouse on Wood Acres Road to ALA as long as it was to be used by a non-profit organization for the good of the community. ALA controls the use and upkeep of the clubhouse.
ALA sponsors such events as dances, pot luck supper, merchandise parties, lake festivals, etc. The big event around the lake is the Fourth of July parade which draws most of the residents to march in or watch every year.
In the past, ALA raised its operating money from voluntary
dues and income producing events such as tag sales and
clubhouse rental donations, in addition to annual donations
from the two tax districts.
ALA meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month
(except in January and February). Activities are publicized in the Amston Laker newsletter, now available online on this site.
ALA MEMBERSHIP - What Your Membership
Means
Without members like you, the many fun-filled
events that families have come to enjoy over the years as a part of living at
Amston Lake would not be possible! ALA volunteers help organize and produce
these activities and events each year, make repairs and improvements to the
clubhouse, and offer voluntary help for the benefit of the lake community.
All operating money is raised from voluntary membership dues, income
producing events, and a contribution from the Amston Lake District Board.
Member benefits also include being able to use the clubhouse at a discounted
rate for individual events such as birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.
We thank you for your contribution and
please let us know if there are any ways you may be able to volunteer.
