Welcome to Amston Lake

Caretaker Report For February, 2010

Security / Ice Checks

Security and ice checks are being done, as time allows, with the hours provided.

Main & Duck Pond Dams

Extra checks are still being provided due to the erosion problems and low water level.

The recommendation to remove the fencing put up at Duck Pond to discourage beaver activity was addressed but never answered at the Board meeting.

Lake Maintenance

Personal & boat passes were ordered for the 2010--11 season……Barley Straw was ordered for instillation in the spring: pick up and storage till then will be done the end of February beginning of March. The responsibility for ordering Porti Potties and obtaining bids for this and lawn care, has been taken over by Ray DeCormier.

Dredging of H-6 Cove

Per Dave O’Brien, the dredging of H-6 Cove in Hebron will be done by Knight & Sons Construction out of West Willington, Ct. on February 22 & 23. I believe the amount set aside to complete this project was $18,000-$20,000. I was not involved in the setting up of this project. I have been asked to oversee and take pictures of the site but have not been given a site plan or any specific instructions. It is hopped that the proper pollution control/ prevention methods will be used in the lake as well as for the dredging pile which will have to de-water before being remove by the Town of Hebron.

When the project is complete, I will raise the water level to 6 six below the spillway and keep it at that level until all ice is off the lake.

Lebanon Roads

A special committee was set up at the request of Dave O’Brien, made up of board members, who are to check the conditions of the roads, recommend repairs, and check snow plowing. This was a task I was responsible for last winter but will not longer be able to give a report on.

I have spoken to Bret/BSA in my travels this month, and he has indicated to me that he has two problem areas with the Lebanon Roads which need to be addressed. I have contacted Mark Paul by phone to make him aware of the problems.

Items Which Need Approval or Disapproval:

Recommendation to remove fencing at Duck Pond…..2nd Request

Results of the review of the task list provided in last months’ Caretakers Report as requested by the Board……

Tree removal (2) at Duck Pond per request of DEP representative last fall…2nd Request

Approval to build grate for storm sewer hole on a Lebanon Road……2nd Request

Sign information needed to design and build sign boards for beaches and ROW’s as requested by the Board, including what signs to post and wording needed on beach closing signs……3rd Request

Does the Board wish my input in the preparation of the new budget figures for the 2010--11 period? It has been suggested that we go with the same bottom line figures with no increase in spending for this period due to economic conditions, as we did last year. If this is the case, some of my expenditures may need to be cut back or eliminated. At some point we need to take into consideration “cost of living factors” such as inflation, increased material and labor costs, increased maintenance costs, etc.

Will additional help be provided this spring and summer as requested last month? This will affect what tasks I am able to do this spring/summer, and budget line items. (the cost to hire an individual vs. the cost to hire a contractor).
