George Knoecklein

Called to order at 3:00 pm
1.
Review and discuss ALD Lake Monitoring Report
– the 2009 Report was emailed to the Board on
Friday, April 2nd-copy is posted on
website or available from the Clerk
·
Dr.
Knoecklein acknowledged that some data was missing
from the report and he would follow-up on revising
the report; specifically requested: pH data and
high coliform reports for L4 and L12, Lebanon
inflows
·
Algae: Algae is fed by phosphorous which enters the
lake from storm water and human activity. We need
to stop phosphorous from entering the lake; until
then, algae will continue to grow. The algae
species last year was different from prior years.
Copper sulfate is a chemical solution but will kill
algae but only for a few weeks and then more will
grow on the phosphorous. Side effects of copper
sulfate: kills snails and all other invertebrates;
only kills the algae it directly contacts; copper
then remains in the lake bottom. Recommends
continued barley straw applications in April, keep
track of numbers of bales used, dates installed and
installation techniques; track results. A certain
amount of algae is normal; only permanent solution
is to stop phosphorous from entering lake and remove
sediments containing phosphorous where possible. Continue
to remind residents to use fertilizer and cleaning
materials which do NOT contain phosphorous
·
Dog
waste in the watershed should be reduced.
·
Everything put into the watershed will drain into
the lake. Once in the lake, it stays there.
2.
Review and discuss remaining lake health
tasks (April to June 30th)
·
As in
years prior, install barley straw in April to
inhibit the growth of algae – Scott Forgue is
coordinating installation
·
Continue to collect samples from the Lebanon side in
conjunction with Lebanon health department in
regards to possible septic failures until sewers are
installed; fecal coliform is best test to identify
septic leakage.
3.
Review and discuss new lake health tasks (July 1,
2010 to June 30, 2011) - Items to be reviewed and
discussed at Annual Meeting for consideration in
budget:
·
Vortex drain to be proposed to residents for Hebron,
H11 inflow to remove sediments from incoming storm
water so to prevent future algae by preventing
phosphorous deposits
·
Dredging of Northeast Cove – to remove sediments and
materials accumulated by prior resident which are
adding to the bacteria and algae problems in that
area; would like Dr. Knoecklein to review the
effects of dredging on H6 and provide feedback on
its effects on the lake soon
·
Continue to collect samples from the Lebanon side in
regards to possible septic failures until sewers are
installed
Adjourned at 5:05 pm
Respectfully submitted,
